Having something ‘go viral’ is what very many marketers try to do for years. No question, there’s a good reason for it because being the marketer who does that can transform a business, overnight. The downside to all this is there is no earthly means for predicting what will be viral, and what just stays the same. But you can follow some general guides that can help to tip the odds in your favor. It’s possible you may see these and think they’re too common sense, but you really never know what may set you apart from all the others.
Strive to be different, maybe even unpredictable in your business. If you have a reputation for just one thing, then create something new or enter a new market. There’s no need to be timid about showing-off something else that’s a part of you, or the way you think. If you don’t overdo it, you can keep people wondering and guessing – and curious about what’s next from you.
You may find that if something’s too predictable, then others may tend to take that for granted. That could have a negative impact on your business. You’ll have a tremendously greater chance of doing something viral if you catch people’s attention in a big way. This is the very heart of going viral: creating something that people talk about and share.
Don’t even bother using advertising for this. Readers and viewers can spot an advertisement from miles away. You’ll almost never see anything like sales copy have a viral effect. True though, your product could become popular, but there are almost always other reasons for that.
Share something of yourself without trying to make money. If your goal is to make something viral, then if you try to sell people will just pay no attention to you. And let your site, other marketing and advertising devices do the selling for you.
Create a free product that you can give to others to share. Writing a free newsletter that has a “share button” is a wonderful way to interest those that don’t normally subscribe to your work. Make sure that your best work is sitting on the front page of your blog for free Offer an hour of your services or a free product in a coupon giveaway. Not only will this strategy grab attention, it will also get new customers if you allow numerous coupons to be printed and shared with friends. Still, though – it is not very easy to cause something to go viral. The general reason is that it’s impossible to know what will catch-on. Purposely creating viral content is difficult for that reason. But you can always learn more, use any good tips you can find, and make the best content you know how to do.
